    GFCI's DON'T TRIP ON AMPERAGE. They literally have no way to detect amperage or overloads. They only trip on "electrical leakage"

    Bought, almost installed by when we tried the magnetic letters I bought for the kids (and that stuck well to our cheap board,) they just fell off. The glass is too thick or the magnet not strong enough! Not sure what to get- it was pretty. Any thoughts for pretty board with great magnetic power, doesn't ghost and doesn't warp?

    • @TopHomeowner
      @TopHomeowner 12 годин тому

      Glass is the best surface to prevent ghosting. The only magnets that will work with glass white boards are neodymium (aka rare earth) magnets unfortunately. Another option you could try is a magnetic porcelain board

    I'm assuming there is a list of tank sizes listed on the packaging of the turbo tank cleaner, for maximum effectiveness and compatibility purposes? And what are the symptoms of sediment build-up in the first place, some may ask? Well, in a gas water heater, you will hear rumbling and popping as the burner fires up, because the sediment acts a layer of insulation that allows water to seep through. The bottom of the tank heats to well beyond the boiling point of water causing continuous mini steam explosions for the duration of the heating cycle. This greatly increases energy costs and severely shortens the life of the heater. A symptom of sediment build up in an electric model is a burned out lower heating element

  •  День тому

    All inductive appliances should also be required to not produce extreme inductive kicks that trip GFCIs because it's a real possibility to introduce hazards in a quest to eliminate false positives by introducing false negatives that reduce safety to compensate for lazy, cheap designs of said appliances. Also, inductive appliances should be required to correct power factor up to a minimum of 90% for efficient use of energy. PS: When I was a kid, a double-stacked wire on a terminal of a receptacle fell off by repeated thermal expansion and started a fire in the wall of my bedroom. It self-extinguished because of other building codes but it kept going for about a minute until it tripped the conventional breaker. Higher-resistance or intermittent shorts that don't exceed the breaker's amperage rating can still start fires. Perhaps AFCI would've stopped it sooner had it existed.

    If your heater is gas and more then a year old this is a complete waste of time unless you have fine sediment in the water. If you have a electric heater you can do a real good job by removing the lower element and sucking out the sediment with a shop vac. Replacing the anode rod every couple of years will be much more effictive.

    A metal flail inside a water tank seems like a bad idea. How does it not damage the interior?

    • @TopHomeowner
      @TopHomeowner 12 годин тому

      I thought the same thing. The company says they've never had a complaint about it damaging a water tank after selling over 10,000 units. Also here's a statement from their website: "One common question is if it's okay to use with a glass lined tank. Glass lined tanks are actually a porcelain enamel which is a fusion of powdered glass and metal, created to be durable from physical damage."

  • @lokiva8540
    @lokiva8540 3 дні тому

    As an engineer, I found this video really good on one point many miss, and poor on others. I was waiting to hear it claim a GFCI senses current to ground, and impressed that it spelled out difference between hot and neutral, while avoiding that common error. That of course is what enables a GFCI to be useful with 2 wire appliances common in kitchens and baths. How it does that could be compared to an Amprobe type meter, and why it reads near zero if looped over a power cord, versus a single conductor. Anyone familiar with CMRR in microphone and similar cables, or differential amplifiers in instrumentation, plus with basic physics of current and magnetism, could of course picture a deeper level of detail. Also think UTP and STP in telecom and data networking cables. AFCI's may detect some of the described faults, but their Code legislative justification is most certainly NOT for the basic building safety violations this video suggests. The solution to that is blacklilst the incompetent jerks pretending to be those electricians. Bedroom locations for AFCI's assume they're locations where old dried out and tiny SPT wire to lamps or small appliances with failure modes from broken insulation at pinch and bend points starts fires, as well as use of undersize extension cords, or crap receptacles (eg, Chinese outlet strips rated 15 amps with heaters, that catch fire as they age just slightly). Those cables may arc when failing, without a ground fault, and with far less current than a normal breaker trip. By comparison, 14 or 12 AWG permanent wiring rarely has those same faults, and is more of an issue in a kitchen or laundry feed. As to how or what AFCI's detect, "noise patterns" is a fairly decent answer, but absent going into electrical engineering details, it's sort of hard to give an accurate as well as simple answer. FCC does not itself certify Part 15 low power unintentional radiator conformance, but contrary to a couple of mentions in this video, that has nothing to do with the fire hazards AFCI's are meant to prevent. (Junk knockoff products illegally imported via ScAmazon may have other unrelated quality of manufacture defects, which are in fact relevant to AFCI detect parameters. ScAmazon blacklists customers who post factually accurate reviews critical of spec and legal frauds of those types, by it or its vendors. Its coerced distribution from their warehouses and logistics services place them in the position of physical commerce in such items it then pretends are only third party crooks, as if eBay shippers in China; if only Customs, the FBI, FTC, and FCC, did a serious investigation, it'd require shutting down all ScAmazon warehouses for a few years of detailed review of many items.)

    • @TopHomeowner
      @TopHomeowner 12 годин тому

      Thanks for your feedback! One quick point is that AFCI's are required pretty much everywhere in a home now, bedrooms were the initial requirement 25 years ago. Most likely to phase in the requirement over time. Doesn't make much sense to only have them in a specific area of a home otherwise since you can have damaged in-wall wiring, loose connections, or bad devices in any part of a home.

    • @TopHomeowner

      Yes, you're basically eliminating the protection. Hooking up the line power to the load terminals will make it useless at best and damage the GFCI at worst.

With the tools I've collected, I've ended up with 4 4Ah and 1 5Ah batteries, so I've had more than enough battery life for the yard work sessions I've put them through so far. I hope to get an EGO lawn tractor before long. I have a little over an acre to maintain.

  • @waltsikes3981
    @waltsikes3981 7 днів тому

    It would be helpful if you slowed your presentation down when you were rekeying the keys you were careful to point out the new key, but then you did not tell whether you turned it clockwise or counterclockwise and then you did not tell if you remove the old key and which key you inserted and then you said “remove the key after you put in the key tool, but you didn’t tell her you rotated it removed it or pull it straight out and then when you finished everything you said it was re-keyed to the new key and that’s not the new key you were trying to key to the old key so all I’m saying is that your nomenclature Was not clear in the end. I think you broke it down as you started and said here’s the new key. I’m gonna put it in and turn it. 1/4 turn counterclockwise then I’m going to remove it and then I’m going to put in the old key I want it too, and I’m gonna turn it a certain direction and then I’m gonna put in the key to and then I’m gonna turn the key a certain direction and then remove it and now the lock is key to the old key. I know I’ve been verbose, but I’m trying to give an example of how you could describe each and every step because everything you said was perfectly clear until the last 15 seconds, and then it looked almost like a card trick because you couldn’t tell what you were doing, thank you for what you’ve done. I don’t mean to be critical. I offer this as help if you wanted to redo the end I’m engineer and fairly capable of doing things but I didn’t understand you’re closing. Thank you again.

      @frankgerage4099 i am not going to disagree with you. It is a demand for electricians. But because of that demand, the electrician rate is high. My uncle is a union electrician. Nothing wrong paying a man what his worth is, but the rate it is not worth it when its expensive and you got to take a line of credit to pay for them. To run ground wire to my 10 outlets, i have. Cost was 6 grand. That was 4 years ago.

    My garage door had the same exact issue as yours. Ordered and installed this fix in no time at all. Thank you so much!

    So if you have a ground wire to a GFI outlet it’s even better right?

    Good explanation of the difference between GFCI, AFCI!

    Does the code require new construction to have AFCI breaker or can an AFCI receptacle be placed on the first receptacle of the circuit?

    Great explanation. Thank you ! Does the GFCI circuit require a regular (non-GFCI) breaker? Also how many outlets can be on 15 Amp GFCI-protected circuit?

      It's not required, you can actually have a GFCI receptacle on the same circuit as a GFCI breaker, but it can make troubleshooting more challenging. As for the max number of outlets, the NEC doesn't specify a max amount, its more about how much power is being drawn in total, but for general use outlets 8 is a good rough number to use as a maximum. Hope this helps!

    So I have a few outlets on the same breaker. A couple of the outlets, cause my lamp to go dim or flicker occasionally as of recent. I checked with a different lamp and it does the same thing across the different outlets. Could it be a bad breaker?
